SAMSUN - French priest of the Roman Catholic Church in the northern city of Samsun was injured in a knife attack on Sunday.
74-year-old Pierre Brunissen, who has been living in Turkey for years, was stabbed in his hip. He was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors said that he was not in a life-threatening condition.
Meanwhile, police immediately detained a 47-year-old suspect who was described as being mentally ill.
Earlier, the suspect, who has been suffering from schizophrenia, made several complaints against the priest for allegedly spreading Christian propaganda. He was arrested years ago for killing his mother.
Samsun Governor Hasan Basri Guzeloglu said that the attacker was arrested and a full investigation was under way.
In February, a teenage boy shot dead Italian priest Andrea Santoro in his church in the neighboring city of Trabzon.
