ANKARA - Turkey grew 6.3 percent in the first quarter of 2006, Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) announced on Friday.
According to TUIK figures, construction was the sector which grew the most in the first quarter of 2006 (25.9 percent), while agriculture was up 0.6 percent, trade 7.4 p.c. and industry rose 4.5 percent.
In the same quarter the rise in the special consumption expenditures was 8.4 percent, and 8.1 percent in public consumption expenditures.
Meanwhile, the Gross National Product (GNP) was calculated as 107.5 billion New Turkish liras (YTL) or 80.3 billion USD in current prices.
The GNP was 31.6 million new Turkish liras (YTL) in constant prices in the first quarter of 2006 (one dollar equals 1.60 YTL).
