ANKARA - Turkey grew 6.3 percent in the first quarter of 2006, Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) announced on Friday.
According to TUIK figures, the growth rate of Gross National Product (GNP) was 6.3 percent, while that of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) attained 6.4 percent in the first quarter of 2006 over the same quarter of 2005. ''The growth rate was above expectations'', TUIK executives said.
The growth rate of GNP was 7.6 percent, and that of GDP 7.4 percent in 2005.
Turkey's GNP was calculated as 80.3 billion USD in current prices in the first three months of this year. On the other hand, its GDP was 80.4 billion USD.
Turkey's GNP was 360.8 billion USD, and its GDP was around 361.4 billion USD in 2005, according to official figures.
