ANKARA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Friday that Iraqi politicians had a big confidence in Turkey and they were positive about Turkish soldiers' arrival in the region.
Gul attended a program at CNN TURK tv channel and gave information about his meetings with Iraqi politicians who visited Ankara regarding the process of Turkey's sending soldiers to Iraq.
Gul said that Iraqi politicians and people had a big confidence in Turkey and added that Iraqi people were the ones among Arabian countries which showed the biggest sympathy to Turkey. He said that Iraqi people were trusting in Turkey, they could see the contribution of Turkey and wanted Turkey's going to Iraq. Yet he added that no politician could openly tell that he wanted foreign soldiers to come to his country.
Noting that recent process was different from the first motion process last March, Gul recalled that a war and foreign soldiers' coming to Turkey was in question in the first motion.
Gul said that if Turkey sent soldiers to Iraq, it would go there to help people, bring peace and make contribution to an elected government's coming into rule by easing the ending of occupation rapidly, not as a part of occupation and not only as a military force.
