Nato Istanbul Summit To Take Place In May 2004

BRUSSELS - NATO summit which will bring together heads of states and governments of NATO countries will be held in Istanbul between May 20-21, 2004.
The last NATO summit, which is held once in every two years, took place in Prague, Czech Republic in November 2002. NATO had shed green light to NATO's expansion in Prague.
Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia will officially join NATO in Istanbul summit.
Before 20 days from Istanbul summit, EU is expected to admit 10 new members on May 1, 2004.
While studies continue to determine the agenda of NATO Istanbul summit, issues such as NATO-EU relations, terrorism and Iraq will have priority.
Representatives of countries which make cooperation with NATO will also meet with NATO countries within the scope of European Atlantic Partnership Council. During the meeting, contacts will also be held with Russia and Ukraine.
