Gul: Fulfillment Of Liabilities In E.U. Membership Process Is Of Utmost Importance

ANKARA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Friday that fulfillment of liabilities in European Union (EU) membership process without any delay was of utmost importance for Turkey.
Gul sent a message to the Human Rights Provincial and Town Boards Seminar held in northeastern Giresun province.
In the message, Gul stated that civil officials undertook important duties in preservation and development of human rights in Turkey.
Gul said, ''in this context, fulfillment of fundamental rights and liberties which our people deserve and fulfillment of our liabilities in EU membership process without any delay are of utmost importance when we take into consideration that Turkey is a member of the Council of Europe since 1950 and a side to European Convention on Human Rights since 1954.''
Pointing out that not only public organs, but also nongovernmental organizations should be more and well informed about human rights and overcome misinterpretations and prejudices, Gul noted that seminars were of importance for reaching those targets.
