NEW YORK - United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari will pay a visit to Turkey at the beginning of July.
Releasing a statement on Thursday, the United Nations said that Gambari would be traveling to Cyprus, Greece and Turkey at the beginning of July to assess the political situation in Cyprus and to evaluate the prospects for a resumption of political talks aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement.
The United Nations noted that Gambari`s mission would be undertaken within the framework of the Secretary-General Kofi Annan`s good offices mission.
Gambari plans to meet officials in Ankara and Athens from July 3rd to 5th, and will be in Cyprus between 6-9 July.
While in Cyprus, Gambari will meet President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos.
He will then return to New York to brief the Secretary-General Annan on the results of his mission.
