AKP DOPING ON IMAMHATIP RELIGIOUS HIGH SCHOOLS
This year there has been an increase of 52 percent in the number of students who applied to study in imamhatip religious schools. Last year 23,000 new students registered to these high schools in Turkey, while the number increased to 35,000 this year. The increase in the number of students in Istanbul increased by 80 percent. Imamhatip schools which earlier came to the brink of closure, doubled the number of their students together with the AKP government. While addressing the nation yesterday, Prime Minister Erdogan said that the coefficient application which impeded imamhatip school graduates to get higher marks in the university entrance exam would be lifted.

DEFENSE DELAY IN DEHAP CASE
The forgery case of People's Democracy Party (DEHAP) which can make November 3 elections disputable has been adjourned until September 29, Monday. The court gave time to lawyers of DEHAP former officials to prepare a more comprehensive defense upon the lawyers' request. DEHAP's former leader Mehmet Abbasoglu and three former administrators of the party were earlier sentenced to 1 year, 11 months and 11 days imprisonment for making falsification in official documents in order to show as if the party had completed its legal organization prior to November 3 elections.

U.S. DELEGATION COMES TO TURKEY
Discussions between Turkey and the U.S. to eliminate terrorist organization PKK/KADEK from the region will start today. The U.S. delegation headed by U.S. State Department official Lynn Pascoe which included officials from U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) came to Ankara yesterday to hold contacts. The delegation will leave Ankara in the weekend and a second delegation can come to Ankara to continue negotiations.

PAMUK AND KEMAL VOLUNTARY ENVOY FOR TURKEY IN EUROPE
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will ask a group of 40 persons composed of Turkish artists, writers, businessmen and politicians to be voluntary envoys for Turkey's promotion in EU countries. In the list there are writers such as Yasar Kemal, Orhan Pamuk and singers like Tarkan and Sertap Erener, and also businessmen like Vural Oger, Arzuhan Yalcýndag and Meral Gezgin Eris. ''Communication Group for EU'' will work in coordination with ''Voluntary Envoys in Europe'' team who will promote Turkey. Foreign Minister Gul will determine 40 names who will be made public if they accept to be voluntary envoys.

IRAQI INTERIM ADMINISTRATION IN TURKEY
Turkey which moves towards taking the decision of sending soldiers to Iraq hosted the members of the Iraqi governing council yesterday. The delegation including the Council's head Ahmad Chalabi and Songul Cabuk, the representative of Turkmens in the Council, will play an important role in the decision of Ankara. The delegation which came to Ankara yesterday, met with Foreign Ministry officials and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul. During the meetings, the two sides exchanged views about the Iraqi Governing Council's regard of Turkish soldiers and the west of Baghdad which was proposed by U.S. for deployment of Turkish soldiers. Turkish side also expressed its uneasiness about the statements of Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari about Turkish soldiers.

ERDOGAN'S VISIT TO IRAN POSTPONED
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan cancelled his scheduled visit to Iran which was expected to take place at the end of September as Iran didn't declare KADEK as a terrorist organization for 1,5 years. After terrorist organization PKK changed its name into KADEK in April 2002, Turkey applied to Iran and asked it to take KADEK into the list of terrorist organizations. During his visit to Iran in June, 2002 President Ahmet Necdet Sezer presented documents to Iranian President Mohammad Khatami proving that KADEK was successor of PKK. Khatami had promised to fulfil the legal procedures. But Iran didn't take KADEK into the list of terrorist organizations.

POLICEMAN'S MURDER OF 'BRIBERY'
One traffic policeman killed his two friends in Istanbul yesterday. The policeman later called the headquarters and told them that he killed the two policemen who encouraged him to drugs and bribery and later he surrendered.

100 PERCENT SUPPORT TO EDUCATION
The education year starts with mobilization this year. National Education Ministry started the campaign of ''100 Percent Support to Education.'' Addressing the nation on tv yesterday, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that they would implement the project of sending poor students to private schools next year. Noting that graduates of vocational schools would be treated equally in admission to universities, Prime Minister Erdogan also said that a study was undertaken to benefit from the idea of 'village institutions.'

CHALABI:IT'S UN'S ISSUE
Ahmad Chalabi, the leader of the Iraqi Governing Council came to Ankara yesterday with a five-member delegation. Chalabi was received both by Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Chalabi stated that the issue of inviting soldiers to Iraq was not their, but U.N.'s issue. Prime Minister Erdogan gave the message in the meeting that ''Turkey does not intent to send soldiers to Iraq by exerting pressure. We are concerned for the future of the Iraqi nation. We don't need you, you need us. If you, rather than coalition powers, invite us to Iraq, this will be more suitable.''

EARLY ELECTIONS STILL ON AGENDA OF ANKARA
Supreme Court of Appeals adjourned DEHAP hearing to September 29 yesterday. But still there are concerns that the possibility of cancellation of November 3 elections could cause a new crisis. Higher Board of Election (YSK) Chairman Algan said that ''if elections are cancelled, this will cause chaos.''

NEW GATE FOR IRAQ
Turkey proposed the U.S. to open an alternative border gate to Habur border gate. If the second border gate is opened with Iraq, the money which Kurdish groups take from Habur border gate will end. Ovakoy border gate which is among Turkey, Syria and Silopi will be used for commercial purposes, while Habur border gate will be used for dispatching of soldiers.

NO COMPROMISE REACHED IN COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
The government and civil servant unions failed to reach a compromise during the collective bargaining talks yesterday. State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin and administrators of Turkish Public Workers Trade Union (Kamu-Sen) and Confederation of Public Workers Trade Unions (KESK) met at the Prime Ministry to evaluate the report of the Conciliatory Board. Following the meeting, Turkish Kamu-Sen Chairman Bircan Akyildiz told reporters that the government rejected the report.
