CHILPANCINGO - Two human heads were found in the Mexican resort of Acapulco on Friday, following a similar discovery the previous day in what authorities believe were the latest of hundreds of drug-related killings.
Two of the heads were found outside a government building Friday morning, after a similar find just hours earlier. Police also found two headless bodies together with a note that read: "So you learn respect."
The note was signed "Z," which authorities say refers to "Los Zetas," a group of former elite soldiers who had been recruited in the 1990s by the Gulf cartel, which is involved in a battle for control of drug routes to the United States.
The mounting war between rival drug cartels has cost hundreds of lives and has prompted the candidates in Sunday's presidential election to pledge a tough crackdown on narco-trafficking.
Mexico is the main trans-shipment route for US-bound cocaine.
