ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan received on Tuesday Sureyya Ayhan who became the second in women's 1500 meters in World Athleticism Championship organized in Paris, France.
Prime Minister Erdogan said during the meeting that ''our target is to train more successful sportsmen and sportswomen in athleticism, which is the basic branch in sports.'' Prime Minister Erdogan added that gaining success in athleticism in the Olympic Games to be held in Greece, which is considered as the motherland of athleticism, carried great importance.
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said in his part that the success of sportsmen and sportswomen was very important for promotion of their countries. He added that the government would allocate more source to Directorate General of Youth and Sports and sports federations while preparing the 2004 year budget.
