PRESIDENT SEZER IN RUSSIA
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer arrived in Russian capital Moscow on a three-day visit. He is the first Turkish president paying a state visit to Russia. President Sezer is scheduled to meet President Vladimir Putin later today. Besides regional and international developments, several energy projects will be high on agenda of the meeting.
''SABANCI MURDER IS AN ACT OF TERROR''
Belgian Supreme Court of Appeals, which ruled that Fehriye Erdal, a member of the illegal Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), could be tried in Belgium for crimes she committed in Turkey, said in its reasoned verdict that assassination of leading businessmen Ozdemir Sabanci in 1996 was an act of terror.
TWO MORE PEOPLE DETAINED OVER COUNCIL OF STATE SHOOTING
Two more people were detained in connection with the armed attack in the Council of State on May 17th. One of the detainees confessed that he provided the gun which was used in the shooting. A judge was killed and four others were injured in the attack. Four people have already face charges of attempting to change the constitution and planned murder.

AL QADI QUESTIONS
There are too many dark points in the investigation on activities of Saudi businessman Yassin al Qadi in Turkey. Al Qadi is in UN's global terrorists list. Istanbul Public Prosecutor Idris Ermeydan decided nolle prosequi regarding Financial Crimes Investigation Board's (MASAK) application about al Qadi. Ermeydan did not find sufficient the data in MASAK's report, and decided not to file a lawsuit also by taking al Qadi's petition into consideration.
ERDOGAN: THERE IS NO LIMITLESS FREEDOM
Speaking at the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which is one of the strongholds of freedom of expression, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan focused on thesis of ''limitless freedom is possible only on paper.''

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke clearly about his candidacy for presidency: why not anybody else can be president. He said, ''president will be a person whom our party will agree. We will ask views of non-governmental organizations. We will carry out surveys.''
PROMISE FOR ATHENS MOSQUE
Greek FM Dora Bakoyianni told the Sabah that they will build a mosque in the only EU capital where there is no mosque. She said that they have found a new place for the mosque which will be closer to Muslim society. She added that they will announce the place within a few days.

SOLDIER KILLED IN CLASH WITH TERRORISTS
A soldier was killed in a clash with terrorists near Isikli village in Cukurca town of the southeastern city of Hakkari.
FIRE IN HOSPITAL
Fire broke out in Ankara's Gazi University Hospital yesterday. Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Ayse Dursun said that they succeeded in evacuating nearly 900 patients including newborn babies within only ten minutes.

RECORD LEVEL INCREASE IN OIL PRICES
While oil prices have begun reducing in the world, they have reached the highest level in history of Turkey. Price of one liter oil increased from 0.98 USD in 2002 to 1.9 USD in June 2006.
TENDER FOR ASSAULT HELICOPTERS
Withdrawal of American companies have endangered the Turkish Armed Forces' assault helicopter project. Also several problems emerged after Russia joined the tender with Kamov helicopters instead of Mi-28.

ALLIANCE COMEDY
Rahsan Ecevit's initiatives to form an alliance against the ruling Justice & Development Party (AKP) have resulted in failure. Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli did not even meet her while Motherland Party leader Erkan Mumcu, True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar and Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal rejected her proposal.
''ISLAMOPHOBIA IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY''
Addressing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''freedom of expression should not be a freedom to insult. The recent cartoon crisis has revealed the growing and dangerous polarization of the international community along cultural and religious fault-lines, exploited by extremists. Islamophobia is a crime against humanity.''

GUL: BLACKMAIL IS NOT APPROPRIATE TO EU
Speaking to Greek journalists in Moscow (where he went to attend the Paris Pact Initiative Ministerial Conference), Turkish FM Abdullah Gul said, ''it is not appropriate to EU to use Cyprus issue as a blackmail against Turkey's EU membership. This is against the spirit of EU. Imposing isolations on one side while lifting from other side does not coincide with EU understanding. Address for solution (in Cyprus issue) is UN, not EU.''
LE MONDE: TWO-STATE SOLVES CYPRUS PROBLEM
While pressures on EU are increasing for a solution in Cyprus, first important proposal came from French Le Monde newspaper. It wrote, ''a two-state EU member Cyprus will solve all the problems.''

MESSAGES FROM ERDOGAN TO EU, ATHENS AND DEP
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that there is no other agenda except screening process and negotiations in Turkey's EU process. ''However, I am disturbed when I see the tendencies to exchange Turkey having a population of 70 million with a country which has a population of 650,000,'' said Erdogan. On the other hand, Erdogan said that he told about church restorations in Turkey to Karamanlis and Bakoyianni, and they got surprised. ''I don't understand why they don't allow restoration of mosques in their country,'' added Erdogan. Addressing Democracy Party (DEP) members, Erdogan said, ''you shall put a distance between yourself and terrorism & PKK. Statements at DEP Congress were not pleasing. You even cannot define PKK as terrorist organization.''
