REJECTION
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli rejected a request by Rahsan Ecevit, wife of former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, for talks. In 1999, Ecevit said that supporters of the MHP had killed numerous people for years. The MHP gave the response to her allegations seven years after.

VERY IMPORTANT WITNESSES FOR BUCAK
The High Criminal Court in Istanbul decided to listen to eight people including former President Suleyman Demirel, former Prime Minister Tansu Ciller, former Interior Minister Mehmet Agar and former Chief of Staff Gen. Dogan Gures in retrial of former deputy Sedat Edip Bucak under the ''Susurluk Case'' as defense witness.

SECOND REJECTION
The Supreme Board of Judges & Prosecutors (SBJP) rejected a request by Ferhat Sarikaya, chief prosecutor in eastern city of Van who was expelled on the ground of preparing an indictment about incidents in Semdinli town, for review of decision over his dismissal from his duties. Sarikaya has the right to object to the decision. If he objects, a higher body will assess his case.

NAME OF AL QADI ERASED
The United States sent two files on September 27th and October 17th, 2001 and requested Turkey to launch a criminal investigation against Yassin Al-Qadi on charges of alleged connection with the Al-Qaida. Financial Crimes Inquiry Board (MASAK) prepared two separate reports about Al-Qadi, former business partner of Cuneyd Zapsu, advisor to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. MASAK applied to the Chief Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul for sequestration of Al-Qadi's possessions. However, the application was excluded from official records and the name of Al-Qadi was erased due to an unknown reason.

BELGIUM CORRECTS ITS MISTAKE
Belgian Supreme Court of Appeals annulled a court verdict preventing trial of Fehriye Erdal in Belgium for crimes she committed in Turkey. Last year, a court in Gent ruled that Erdal, a member of the illegal Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) and one of suspects of the assassination of businessman Ozdemir Sabanci in 1996, could not stand trial in Belgium for crimes she committed in Turkey. Erdal has been at large for four months.

IMITATION PERFUME CAUSES FIRE AT ATATURK AIRPORT
Sabah has obtained the expert report regarding the fire that broke out in cargo department of C Terminal of the Ataturk Airport in May 2006. According to the investigation report, when some imitation perfume bottles, in cargo broke, ethyl alcohol was released and when it accumulated around the hot electric bulbs, they went up in flares and a fire broke out.

WORLD GRIEVES FOR THE ''VOICE WIZARD''
Turkish-born record producer Arif Mardin, who helped shape hit recordings by the Bee Gees, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson and Bette Midler, among many others, has died at age 74. Mardin died in New York on Sunday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. The winner of 11 Grammys, including producer of the year, he spent nearly 30 years at Atlantic Records before founding his own label at EMI, Manhattan Records, where he signed Norah Jones for her debut album.

CHP NOT TO BE INCLUDED IN ALLIANCE
The wife of former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, Rahsan Ecevit, who is seeking part of a plan to form a broad-based coalition (to take on the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in next year's presidential elections), had a meeting with the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal yesterday. Baykal rejected calls for alliance by saying, ''we don't want to be included in deals behind closed doors. We are not interested in alliance projects.''

BUDGET DEFICIT IS 1.3 BLN YTL
Turkey Economic Policies Research Foundation said that the budget deficit amounted to 1.39 billion YTL in the first five months of 2006. However, Finance Ministry earlier said that the budget yielded a surplus worth 304 million YTL.

DEMIREL AND CILLER TO TALK ABOUT SUSURLUK
The High Criminal Court in Istanbul made an important decision at the retrial of Sedat Bucak, former deputy of the True Path Party (DYP) under the Susurluk Case. The court decided to listen to eight people including former President Suleyman Demirel, former Prime Minister Tansu Ciller, former Interior Minister Mehmet Agar and former Chief of Staff Gen. Dogan Gures as defense witnesses.

BAD NEWS FOR SARIKAYA
The Supreme Board of Judges & Prosecutors (SBJP) rejected a request by Ferhat Sarikaya for review of decision over his dismissal from his duties. Sarikaya has the right to object to the decision. If he objects, a higher body will assess his case. On April 20th, the Supreme Board of Judges & Prosecutors dismissed Sarikaya from his duties on the motives of inserting irrelevant issues in the Semdinli indictment incriminating Turkish Land Forces Commander Gen. Yasar Buyukanit among others.

MOST CRITICAL MESSAGE IN 27 YEARS
The hidden side of Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul's visit to Iran last weekend has begun clarifying. Sources said that Gul conveyed a message of the United States to Iranian authorities and said that the United States wanted to set up formal relations again. Iranian authorities did not turn down the proposal, and asked for time to think about it.

TWO GIANT INVESTMENTS
Mercedes will establish one of its biggest facilities in the southeastern city of Gaziantep while Renault is planning to construct its lorry factory in the central city of Konya.

WILSON: ''WE DID NOT DO EVERYTHING ON FIGHT AGAINST PKK''
U.S. administration which could not meet demands of Turkish government on fight against terrorist organization PKK made an interesting confession. U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Ross Wilson said that there were some pleasing developments regarding fight against PKK, but he thought that the United States did not do its utmost on this matter.

GUL TAKES ACTION FOR ABDUCTED ISRAELI SOLDIER
After Israel asked for Turkey's support to find an Israeli soldier who was kidnapped by Palestinian militants, Gul held telephone conversations with Palestinian administration leader Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh. Haniyeh said that he could not even convene his government because of Israel, and how he was supposed to find the soldier.
