Türkiye and Britain Launch Joint Parliamentary Project to Support EU Accession

The Turkish Democracy Foundation and British NGO LINKS have partnered on a project designed to support Türkiye's parliament as the country pursues full European Union membership.

The initiative calls for two advisory bodies: a National Advisory Board chaired by a Turkish parliamentarian, and a European Advisory Unit led by a British parliamentarian. Ten workshops are planned in Ankara to accelerate the EU screening process and inform lawmakers, parliamentary staff, and the public about European institutions.

Additional components include two national conferences to assess membership progress and the creation of an EU Information Office to keep parliamentarians current on EU affairs. Turkish lawmakers will also receive assistance in building direct ties with European institutions and newer EU member states.

The project was announced at a reception held at the British Embassy in Ankara. British parliamentarian Angus Robertson called it a historic step, adding that such cooperation would grow as Türkiye moves closer to EU membership.
