ANKARA - Denizli Governor Recep Yazicioglu, who had a traffic accident en route from western Denizli province to Ankara on September 2, passed away on Monday.
Doctors had confirmed Yazicioglu's medical brain death on September 4, but Yazicioglu continued to live connected to a respirator.
Doctors said that Yazicioglu lost his life since his other organs stopped functioning after his brain death although he was connected to the respirator.
Denizli Governor Recep Yazicioglu was born in Surmene town of northeastern Trabzon province in 1948.
Yazicioglu, who graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1968, served as a head official for 16 years and was the governor of Tokat province for five years, Aydin province for two years and Erzincan province for eight years.
Recep Yazicioglu criticized ''bureaucratic, elitist, and centralist system.'' He pioneered many projects in cooperation of the state and nation and by gaining the society's sympathy.
He launched many campaigns for healthy life, tried to promote and change the image of East Anatolia Region by mountain sports and thus, launched a psychological fight against terrorism.
Yazicioglu wrote two books named ''Bu Sistem Degismeli'' (This System Should Change) and ''Sil Bastan'' (Restart From The Very Beginning).
He had two doctorate theses on Social Development of Tokat.
Yazicioglu, who was appointed as the Denizli Governor on January 30, 2003, was married and had three children.
