FIVE FORWARD STATIONS TILL BAGHDAD
Agreement was reached in the first tour of talks with the United States to give the command of a region to Turkey. Five forward stations will be established till Baghdad. Turkey proposed that Turkish and U.S. special forces should work together in police stations and patrolling around. Turkey asked the United States to seriously warn Kurdish groups who oppose to Turkish soldiers. Dispatch will be made through highway but planes can also be used in some ''urgent situations.'' Turkish helicopters equipped against possible missile attacks will be used in this case. Turkish soldiers can use their right to defense themselves in case of any attack on them. The United States will give the license numbers of all vehicles to be used by Turkish soldiers.

WE ARE BOTH PLEASED AND SAD
Turkish national football team continued on its road to Euro 2004 while 12 giant men risked their chance to qualify for the second tour in the European Basketball Championship. Turkish national football team defeated Liechtenstein 3-0 in an away match. Our football team continued to be the leader of its group by 18 points but, it played one match more than Britain. Britain is ranked in the second place following Turkey. However, 12 giant men were defeated by Greece 75-70 in their second match in the championship. We have to defeat Croatia to qualify.

WE HAVE ASKED UNITED STATES: ''WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IF THERE WERE 100 AL QAIDA MEMBERS IN TURKEY?''
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul explained Turkey's expectations about the members of the terrorist organization PKK who were sheltering in Iraq by giving this example to Washington. Gul very openly listed the steps Ankara asked to be taken regarding the terrorist organization PKK in his visit to Washington. He said, ''what would you expect from us if you told us that there were 100 Al Qaida members in Turkey? We will exactly expect the same thing from you. Now that you are the authority of those lands and you control those lands, this is our expectation from you.''

JUSTICE MINISTER CICEK CALLS ON SOCIETY TO FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION
Justice Minister Cemil Cicek held a press conference two days before the new judicial year started and called on everybody to support jurisdiction. Emphasizing importance of cooperation in fight against corruption, Cicek said, ''every member of a profession should correct the mistakes in their group. Nobody should expect the government to clean and correct everything.''

LESSON TO EU: YOU FADE AWAY LIKE CANDLE FLAME
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed to the European Union (EU) during Ambrosetti Forum in Italy: ''referring to Christianity in EU draft constitution limits cultural interaction. Civilizations are similar to flame of a candle. In case they continue to burn alone, they will fade away and disappear one day. Single religion understanding retains Europe to small Europe.''

SEPARATE COMMAND TO TURKISH SOLDIER
While going to a summit in Italy, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul stated, ''a consensus is reached with the United States on giving a separate region and command to Turkish soldier. The United States presented different suggestions in a broad geography.''

UNITED STATES: ZEBARI WILL BE SILENCED
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul reacted harshly to the United States regarding the statements of Zebari. The United States sent this message: ''we will silence him. He causes trouble for us as well.''

AGREEMENT ON SEPARATE REGION UNDER TURKISH COMMAND
It has been announced that agreement was reached by Washington administration and Turkey to give a separate region in Iraq under Turkey's command. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, who said that talks on technical details would continue, noted that a U.S. delegation would come to Ankara the following week to send the terrorist organization PKK/KADEK away from northern Iraq. Gul said, ''the United States will not want its credibility in international fight against terrorism to be harmed.''

AK PARTY DETERMINED: NO RISE TO SALARIES OF CIVIL SERVANTS
Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said that they would not cause civil servants to face economic problems due to inflation rate but that they would act taking into consideration their possibilities when doing that. Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin criticized the report of Conciliatory Board and said that a compromise was difficult.

LESSON OF SECULARISM TO EU
When the European Union (EU) is discussing its constitution, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for secularism in Ambrosetti Forum. Erdogan sat beside Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in the lunch. In the session on ''EU Convention and Institutionalization'', Erdogan said, ''the part where religion will be written should be left empty in the EU. EU should not confine itself to small Europe.''

''UZANS WILL BE CAPTURED IN 20-30 DAYS''
Justice Minister Cemil Cicek opened the new jurisdiction year two days before. Cicek said, ''2004 is a year of enforcement for the EU. And, the key is in hands of jurisdiction. The Uzans will be captured in 20-30 days.''

GUL WARNS ZEBARI: DO NOT ACT UNGRATEFULLY
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul reacted harshly against Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari who said, ''we do not want Turkish soldiers.'' Gul said, ''He should be careful. He is in this position for a temporary period of time. Turkey brings him and his party to these days. We are going there for peace.'' Explaining the issue of sending soldiers, Gul said, ''the decision where Turkish soldiers will undertake mission belongs to us. The United States accepted this. Turkish soldiers will only go where we want and command will be ours.''

MOSTAR AGAIN
''Mostar 2004'' project, which Turkey has started in 1994 in Bosnia-Herzegovina where the most painful massacre of the last century was experienced, begins countdown. New face of Mostar with its restored artifacts will be promoted to the world in 2004.

''CAMUR'' WINS PRIZE IN VENICE
Director Dervis Zaim won 'UNESCO 2003' prize in the 60th Venice Film Festival with his third movie ''Camur''. The movie competed in the branches of best movie, best director, best actor and best actress. The film, which approaches Cyprus issue from a different perspective and presents a life in tolerance, won the prize due to its peaceful messages.

TURKISH SOLDIER WILL BE IN IRAQ WITH ITS OWN COMMANDER
Turkey reached an agreement with the United States that Turkish soldiers, who will go to Iraq, will be commanded by Turkish commander and also Turkey will determine itself where it will take mission. The United States presented different suggestions in a broad geography in Iraq for Turkish soldier.
