Gül stressed that a negotiated resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue would serve the interests of Iran, Türkiye, the broader region, and the international community. He confirmed that Iran had begun reviewing an incentives package, calling it a significant step. Gül said he was carrying assessments and messages from Prime Minister Erdoğan to Iranian officials and would relay their responses back.
The ministers also discussed a scheduled gathering of foreign ministers from countries neighboring Iraq, set for 8 and 9 July in Tehran, where regional issues would be examined in greater depth.
On bilateral matters, Motaki noted that trade between Türkiye and Iran stood at roughly 4.5 billion USD and said that figure warranted further growth. He added that Iranian officials intended to maintain ongoing consultations with Türkiye.
Gül's Tehran itinerary included planned meetings with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani, and former President Hashimi Rafsanjani.
