Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul was set to travel to Iran on Saturday on a working visit aimed at helping restart diplomatic negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The ministry said Gul would meet with senior Iranian officials to share an assessment reached through ongoing consultations with all parties involved in the nuclear dispute.
Türkiye has actively supported a diplomatic resolution to the Iran nuclear issue since it first came before the international community, the ministry noted. Officials pointed to an incentive package delivered to the Iranian government in Tehran on 6 June 2006 as having improved prospects for a negotiated outcome.
Gul's visit was described as an effort to encourage Iran to return to talks on the basis of that proposal.
