ALANYA - ``Figures of exports from Turkey exceeded 77.2 billion USD in the last 12 months,`` said Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen in a meeting in Alanya town of southern city of Antalya on Thursday.
Tuzmen added that exports grew 25 percent in the first 20 days of June in 2006 when compared with the same period of last year. He noted that exports of fresh fruits & vegetables in the same period rose by 50 percent.
``Last year`s exports figures grew 16 percent when compared with 2004. Total exports of agricultural products rose by 20 percent and reached 7.82 billion USD. The share of agriculture sector in our total exports amount was 10.6 percent in 2005. I believe exports potential in agriculture sector will reach 10 billion USD in future period,`` said Tuzmen.
Tuzmen also stressed the importance of organic agriculture, and said that ecological products bring an income of 11 billion USD in the world, however Turkey`s share in this market is only 70 million USD which is a very low figure.
