RUSSIAN LEAVES RACE, REAL CHAMPION SUREYYA
World champion Russian Tomashova was afraid of Turkish athlete Sureyya Ayhan this time and left the race. Sureyya Ayhan became the first in the sixth leg of Golden League in Brussels by recording ''her best score of this year.''

A GROUP OF PKK MEMBERS HARASS TURKISH BASKETBALL PLAYERS
WITH ''KNIVES AND SWEARS''
Twelve giant men who started the European Basketball Championship held in Sweden by a victory of 77-69 over Ukraine were harassed by a group of terrorist organization PKK supporters after the match. The group had knives in their hands and swore at our basketball players.

TWENTY DAYS HAVE PASSED
The state which found Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization in four days, cannot find the Uzans. The public reacted to security forces who followed Ocalan in Syria, Moscow, Italy and Kenya but who can't find where Kemal, Yavuz and Bahattin Uzan are. Police who raided on many workplaces and houses belonging to the Uzans can't find anything. There is not any intelligence about where Uzans who can't be found for 20 days are hiding and if they have gone abroad. The Young Party (GP), which is chaired by Cem Uzan, is also under investigation. The Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor's Office started to investigate the party of Cem Uzan within the framework of the Political Parties Law.

HE IS TOO TALKATIVE
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari became more insolent yesterday: ''Technology of Turkish soldiers is not adequate to conduct mission here.'' Zebari, who caused reactions of Ankara saying that he did not want any Turkish soldiers to be deployed in Iraq, claimed that Turkey did not have the same military technology as the United States and Britain. Iraqi minister said that Turkish soldiers would not be taken seriously since they could not succeed in settlement of peace in the region and asked Russia, Germany and France to send forces.

FROM ANKARA TO UNITED STATES: ''ZEBARI ACTED WRONGLY''
After Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari made a statement that ''they did not want Turkish soldiers in their country'', Ankara conveyed a message to the United States. The message is as follows: ''such statements cause a difficult situation for us. This statement is conflicting with your demand for Turkish soldiers.''

TEN PERCENT INCREASE IN SALARIES OF CIVIL SERVANTS
The Conciliatory Board took its decision on the salaries of civil servants: ten percent rise for the first half of 2004 and eight percent increase for the second half of 2004. Civil servants will be paid 20 million Turkish Liras (TL) for food assistance monthly. Each civil servant will be paid 200 million TL in two installments for their 2003 losses.

BY-PASS FRONT AGAINST DENKTAS
Three leading left parties of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have reached an agreement. ''If three parties enter parliament, they will withdraw President Denktas from negotiations of the United Nations and the European Union (EU). A United Cyprus Republic will be formed and this state will be made EU member in May 2004.''

GENERAL STAFF TO CONTINUE TALKS ON CONDITIONS OF SENDING SOLDIERS
Turkish and U.S. military officials will continue talks on sending soldiers to Iraq. Contacts of the Office of General Staff and Foreign Ministry with the U.S. European Command (EUCOM), U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and the U.S. Embassy in Ankara will continue in coming days. Turkish officers on duty in Tampa base of CENTCOM will more actively take part in the dialogue from now on. Meanwhile, Turkey continues contacts to take pulse in Iraq.

PROPOSAL TO RAISE SALARIES BY TEN PERCENT
The Conciliatory Board proposed to increase salaries of civil servants by 10 percent for the first six months of 2004 and raise them by 8 percent in the second half of the year. The Board also foresaw that 200 million Turkish liras (TL) should be paid to civil servants in two installments for their 2003 losses. The Board foresaw that 25 million should be paid to civil servants as rent assistance in the first half of 2004 and 35 million for the rest. The last decision will be taken by the government.

TALKS PAUSED FOR PKK
A U.S. delegation comprised of officials of State Department, Department of Defense and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is expected to come to Ankara to discuss the terrorist organization PKK next week. Turkey wants confirmation of the promise that ''the United States will not allow terrorist activities in Iraq.'' Military talks with the United States were interrupted until the terrorist organization PKK is taken up. Turkey wants the United States to confirm that it would not turn a blind eye to terrorist activities in Iraq and support the ''return home law.''

TREASURY'S SEPTEMBER DEBT IS 8 QUADRILLION
Treasury will repay 1 quadrillion 132 trillion Turkish liras (TL) in domestic debt next week. Treasury will repay all the debt on September 10. Domestic debt repayment of the Treasury in September will amount to 8 quadrillion 381 trillion TL.

TARGET IS USD 100 BILLION DOLLARS
State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said that he attributed a special importance to increasing the existing export with neighbor countries and added, ''we should consider our neighbors as an opportunity not a potential threat.'' Tuzmen called Greece to sign a broader cooperation in economic and commercial fields.

U.S. LOAN IS COMING
U.S. Department of Treasury announced that they reached an end regarding the loan worth of 8.5 billion dollars to be given to Turkey. Officials emphasized that Turkey's sending soldier to Iraq was not a preliminary condition for the loan.

TEN PERCENT INCREASE FOR CIVIL SERVANTS
The Conciliatory Board envisioned ten percent increase for the first half of 2004 and eight percent increase for the second half of 2004 to the salaries of civil servants. If inflation becomes more than ten percent in the first six months, an additional increase will be made in the salaries. The government and representatives of labor unions will convene on September 11 and evaluate the decision.

ZEBARI WANTS FRENCH AND RUSSIAN SOLDIER
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, who said that he did not want Turkish soldier in Iraq as it would harm stability, wanted soldiers from Germany, France and Russia which had been against war from the beginning. Zebari said that Iraq would not consider seriously about the countries which did not have an improved military technology. Turkey, which started negotiations on the issue of sending soldier to Iraq, launched initiatives in Washington regarding the statement of a cabinet member who started his mission with the approval of the United States.

TWELVE GIANT MEN BEAT UKRAINE IN LAST QUARTER
Turkish National Basketball team beat Ukraine 77-69 in the 33rd European Basketball Championship held in Sweden. Twelve giant men who completed third period as 54-52, beat Ukraine in the last quarter as 77-69.
