Industrial Production Increases By 4.9 Percent In Second Quarter Of 2003

ANKARA - Industrial production increased by 4.9 percent in the second quarter of 2003, over to the same quarter of the previous year.
State Institute of Statistics (SIS) announced on Thursday the results of the quarterly industrial production index and said that manufacturing industry production increased by 5.4 percent and electricity, gas and water production rose by 7.2 percent while mining industry production decreased by 15 percent in the second quarter of 2003 over to the same period of the last year.
The statement noted that manufacturing industry production increased by 0.8 percent in public sector and by 6.4 percent in private sector.
The subsector's production increased by 36.5 percent in motor vehicles, by 18 percent in rubber and plastic products, by 12.2 percent in publishing and printing, by 13.9 percent in machinery and equipment, by 10.9 in manufacture of metal products, by 8.6 percent in tobacco products, by 6.2 percent in manufacture of non-metallic products, by 5.7 percent in manufacture of electrical machinery and apparatus, and by 5.4 percent in food products and beverages.
Production in manufacture of transport equipment decreased by 26 percent, office accounting computing machinery dropped by 19.1 percent and dressing of leather dropped by 8.1 percent in the same period.
SIS explained that when the average of six months growth rate of production was compared over to the same period of the previous year; sector of total industrial increased by 6.8 percent, sector of manufacturing industrial increased by 7.7 percent and sector of electricity, gas and water increased by 7.6 percent, sector of mining industry decreased by 14.1 percent.
