A Türkiye-Iran interparliamentary friendship delegation visited Tehran on Monday, meeting Iranian parliament speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-e Adel. The delegation was headed by Justice and Development Party (AKP) lawmaker Ahmet Inal.
Adel stressed that deepening ties with Muslim-majority and neighboring countries is a core priority of Iranian foreign policy, and expressed Tehran's desire to expand economic, political, and cultural cooperation with Türkiye specifically.
Both sides agreed that Ankara and Tehran hold closely aligned positions on the situation in Iraq, and that bilateral cooperation could help foster stability and confidence there.
Inal acknowledged that while political and cultural relations between the two countries are in good shape, economic ties remain underdeveloped and warrant further attention.
On Iran's nuclear program, Inal said both nations back the peaceful use of nuclear technology and called for Iran's nuclear dispute to be resolved through diplomacy, with all activities conducted under the Non-Proliferation Treaty framework and International Atomic Energy Agency oversight.
