Gul Attends U.N. Conference On Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

''INTERNATIONAL PEACE AND SECURITY IS INDIVISIBLE''

VIENNA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul who is currently in Vienna for an official visit, said on Wednesday that international peace and security was indivisible.
Addressing the U.N. conference on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, Gul said that Turkey which signed and ratified the treaty, believed that lasting international peace, security and stability regime could only be possible if global problems were taken up in a comprehensive way.
Gul said that 168 countries signed the agreement in the last seven years and 104 of them also ratified it, adding that Turkey ratified the agreement in 2000. Gul said that nevertheless the treaty could not still go into force as no sufficient number of member countries ratified the agreement. Gul added that the aim in the conference should be to ensure the agreement's going into force.
