VIENNA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday that they were ready to extend political support to enable many Turks to work in international organizations.
Gul listened to problems and proposals of 20 Turkish personnel working in United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Foreign Minister Gul said, ''because I worked as an economist in the Islamic Development Bank like you, I know what political support is. Our wish is to extend you every kind of political support.''
Turkish personnel working in several departments of the United Nations told Gul their problems and proposals like ''coordination of foreign assistance to Turkey by the Foreign Ministry, becoming stronger in the IAEA, the necessity to have nuclear energy power plants to recruit personnel to nuclear energy and nuclear security departments, the necessity of projects prepared and put into implementation by concerned Turkish institutions in order to extend social assistance to disabled children in Turkey.''
Gul, who listened to the problems that Turkish personnel faced in the U.N. and their proposals for betterment of relations between Turkey and U.N. organizations, stated that he sometimes discussed those issued with the relevant departments of the ministry.
Noting that they would once more take up those concrete proposals, Gul said that they would do what was necessary.
