ANKARA - German railway officials will come to Turkey on Thursday to hold meetings with officials of Directorate General of Turkish Railways (TCDD) on several issues.
A statement of Directorate General of TCDD said on Wednesday that German Railways Director General Hartmut Mehdorn and TCDD Director General Suleyman Karaman would chair the meetings.
The statement noted that train service between Istanbul and Cologne, purchase and rent of passenger and cargo cars, train purchase and rent within scope of rapid train project of the Directorate General of TCDD, and increase of share of railways in transportation between the two countries would be taken up in the meetings.
Around 59 percent of annual 5 million tons of cargo transportation between Turkey and Germany was made by sea, 39 percent by highway and one percent by railway, the statement added.
