Office To Deal With Turkish Immovable Properties In South Cyprus To Start Accepting Applications On Thursday

LEFKOSA - The studies started by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to find solution to the issue of immovable property continue.
The studies continue by the coordination of different units which deal with Greek Cypriot properties left in TRNC, Turkish properties and immovable properties belonging to the foundations in south Cyprus.
While the commission continues its studies to find a solution to Greek Cypriot properties left within the TRNC borders through compensation or barter, the office which will carry out studies about the Turkish immovable properties in south Cyprus will also start to accept applications as of Thursday.
TRNC Attorney General Akin Sait said on Wednesday that all of the citizens who had properties in South Cyprus could apply to that office.
''Citizens whose immovable properties were expropriated, demolished and who were unjustly treated can apply to that office. The office will examine the issue and ask for compensation from the Greek Cypriot administration on behalf of the citizens whose properties were expropriated. The cost will be met by the state,'' Sait said.
The office will also employ lawyers and the office will have its own personnel.
The initial results of the studies started a while ago to determine Turkish properties which were expropriated by the Greek Cypriot side particularly after 1974 were earlier announced and it was seen in the Greek Cypriot official newspaper that around 500 immovable properties which belonged to Turks were expropriated only in the last two years. Recently according to the surveys of the Greek Cypriot official newspaper, the immovable properties of 111 Turkish Cypriots in South Cyprus were expropriated by the Greek Cypriot administration between March-May 2003.
