KANUNI WILL NOT RETURN FROM VIENNA THIS TIME
Visit to Germany boosted morale of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Berlin on Tuesday expended its strongest support to Turkey on the way to European Union (EU) full membership. German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer praised reform steps taken by Turkey with his statements that can be recorded in history.
Fischer said Kanuni, Suleyman the Magnificent, would not return from the doors of Vienna this time, stating that Turkey would be accepted to the EU.
Underlining that they were pleased over the efforts of Turkey and the steps Turkey has taken on the way to reforms, Fischer said Turkey would be taken to the EU as a contemporary Islam country. He said they wished Turkey to be successful in implementation of reforms. Fischer stated that thus Turkey would be an example to other Islam countries.

PKK/KADEK:CEASE-FIRE ENDED
PKK/KADEK organization, which said it had announced cease-fire unilaterally in 1999, said after four years that it suspended this decision, and made threats.
Mizgin Sen, one of the so-called spokespersons of the terrorist organization, who replied to questions of British Broadcasting organization BBC, said they could not any more maintain cease-fire, stating that the government did not respond positively to the solution proposals they made. The so-called spokesperson, aiming to show the organization as innocent, said calls made by the organization were responded with operations, and noted that ''low intensity'' clashes are expected in the new period.

PRIME MINISTER ERDOGAN: THERE IS NO PROBLEM BETWEEN US AND GENERAL STAFF
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan replied to questions of Fatih Altayli in Teke Tek program broadcast in Germany.
Stating that National Security Council (NSC) would discuss sending soldiers to Iraq on September 22, Erdogan said, ''we will go there if Iraqi people says they would be relieved if Turkish soldiers come.''
Erdogan said, ''there is no meaning for us to get mixed up in incidents there if we can not reach a result. I think that the Parliament will be affected if we and General Staff take a decision by looking at the same target.''
Stressing that there was no difficulty between General Staff and the government, Erdogan said, ''there may be ideas that can criticize each other, but statements that will hurt each other will not be right.''

DENIZLI GOVERNOR YAZICIOGLU INJURED SERIOUSLY
Denizli Governor Recep Yazicioglu was seriously injured when his car overturned near Ankara.
Yazicioglu, publicly known as ''Super Governor'', was seriously injured in the head in a traffic accident near Ankara.
Yazicioglu had a brain surgery which lasted for three hours.
Yazicioglu, currently under treatment in Ankara Ibni-Sina hospital, is still in vital condition.

GERMAN PROMISE
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder expended full support to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the European Union (EU). Schroeder said they could not cause disappointment in Turkish people who have confidence in them.
Schroeder said support of Germany would continue to Turkey for the EU, stressing that this was also for the benefit of Germany.
Congratulating Erdogan for the reforms fulfilled in Turkey, Schroeder said they appreciated the reforms, and noted that those reforms would make contribution on the way to EU.
Schroeder said they would apply a higher authority for extradition of Kaplan.

GUL: WE DON'T ONLY RELY ON BERLUSCONI
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said Italy supported Turkey's EU full membership from the very beginning, stating that, ''but still we know that Berslusconi will not make Turkey enter the EU on his own.''
Gul gave messages for his visit to Italy that will take place after two days.
Question: What are your expectations from your visit to Italy?
Gul: Italy attributes great importance to Turkey's EU membership. We told each other that, ''let us improve relations. Let us make everything in coordination.''
Question: ''Consultant of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said, 'Berlusconi has not gone to Turkey only for the wedding ceremony. He also solved problems of Turkish companies Astaldi and TIM Aria.''
Gul: There should not be a misunderstanding. Neither we nor they think that, ''let us do something like this so that they will expend support to us in EU full membership''. Those were under discussion when I was acting as the Prime Minister. We are trying to make Turkey a paradise for foreign investors. They should not leave Turkey because of bureaucracy.''
Question: Do you believe that Berlusconi is important in Turkey's entrance to the EU?
Gul: Of course Berlusconi will not make us enter the EU. We know power of Berlusconi. We don't rely on Berlusconi on EU issue.

48 PEOPLE ON HUNGER STRIKE TAKEN TO HOSPITALS
Conciliatory Board will begin its studies on Wednesday after a compromise could not be reached between the government and trade unions during collective bargaining talks. Members of the Turkish Public Workers Labour Union (Kamu-Sen) have been on hunger strike for four days. A total of 48 administrators of Kamu-Sen, who were on hunger strike, were taken to hospitals on Tuesday.

METU ECONOMY CONGRESS TO CONVENE
The 7th International Middle East Technical University (METU) Economy Congress organized by METU Economy Researchers Center will convene in METU Culture Center between September 6 and 9. Many people from nearly 40 countries will attend the congress.

ANKARA TO HAVE A BUSY SCHEDULE
Ankara will have a busy schedule prior to the European Commission's Progress Report about Turkey which is expected to be announced on November 5. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is currently in Germany, and Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, who has talks in Austria, will continue to visit capitals of the EU countries. Many EU delegations are expected to visit Ankara.

TURKISH SOLDIERS THIRD POWER
NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) Commander Gen. James Jones who earlier came to Ankara twice after detention of Turkish soldiers in Sulaymaniyah came to Ankara on Tuesday. Jones has an agenda regarding dispatch of Turkish soldiers to Iraq for settlement of stability in Iraq. Jones came to Ankara as the guest of Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok. Jones will start to have meetings on Wednesday. Jones's messages are as follows; Turkish soldiers can have mission under the authority of a Turkish commander. U.S. soldiers can ask Turkish soldiers to send reinforcements to regions where U.S. soldiers have some difficulties during clash. The United States will describe Turkish soldiers as ''the third big power'' in Iraq.

ERDOGAN TELLS SCHROEDER: ''YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR PROMISE''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder who said that they supported Turkey's membership to the European Union (EU) that ''we also expect the same sensitivity in December 2004.'' Speaking in the joint news conference after meeting with Schroeder, Erdogan said that ''Turkey's EU membership should not be made a tool in German internal politics. Our 2.5 million Turkish people who live in Germany are very sorry for that. We appreciate the German government's support to the EU membership of Turkey. I hope German policy will not change.''

SIVAS READY FOR HISTORICAL DAY
The Council of Ministers will convene on Thursday in central Sivas province for the first time. The meeting of Council of Ministers will be held in Sivas to mark the 84th anniversary of Sivas Congress. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will reopen Sivas Airport.

TURKEY EXPECTS CONCRETE STEPS FROM THE UNITED STATES AGAINST PKK
Bargaining between Turkey and the United States on sending Turkish soldiers to Iraq intensify on terrorist PKK/KADEK. The government will call on Gen. James Jones, the NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) chief and top U.S. commander to Europe, to disclose their ''action plans'' against terrorist PKK/KADEK organization acting in northern part of Iraq.
National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, who is expected to meet with Jones today, stated that they were not at bargaining point with U.S. side on terrorist organization, yet noted that the issue was under examination.

TUSIAD OPENS BUREAU IN BERLIN FOR EU LOBBY
Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen Association (TUSIAD) opened bureau in Germany which is one of the countries that would play key role in Turkey's membership process to the European Union (EU).
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Culture and Tourism Minister Erkan Mumcu, German Interior Minister Otto Schily, parliamentarians, politicians, and Turkish and German businessmen participated in the opening of the office.
