ANTI-DRUG OPERATION IN FOUR CITIES
Security forces launched a synchronous operation in four separate cities and impounded more than 1 million Captagon drug pills. Seventeen people were detained in the operation. Detainees said that they were planning to market the drug pills in Syria and the other Middle Eastern countries.
TURKISH AUTHOR KEMAL`S WORKS TRANSLATED INTO GREEK
Two novels of prominent Turkish author Orhan Kemal were translated into Greek. ``My Father`s House`` and ``The Idle Years`` were translated into Greece by Stella Christidou, and published by Kastaniotis Publishing House.

A LETTER FROM ISRAEL
Rahsan Ecevit, wife of former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, claimed that Israeli people had been purchasing lands in southeastern Anatolia region. In response to her allegations, Israeli Deputy Consul General in Istanbul Moshe Kanhi said that Israel did not purchase any land in the region. Kanhi also sent a report claiming that lands in southeastern Anatolia were purchased by Arabs.
``LET`S SETTLE THE CULTURE OF COMPROMISE``
Turkish Industrialists` & Businessmen`s Association (TUSIAD) Chairman Omer Sabanci said that politicians should refrain from escalating tension due to recent economic developments. ``If politicians can reach a consensus on the issue of upcoming presidential elections, it will secure confidence in the markets,`` he said.
THREE PEOPLE DIE OF CRIMEAN-CONGO HEMORRHAGIC FEVER
Three people died of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) in the central city of Corum. Meanwhile, eight people were hospitalized after being diagnosed with CCHF. CCHF is a viral hemorrhagic fever caused by tick bite, with a high mortality rate.

NUMBER OF SUPPORTERS OF BUSH LOWEST IN TURKEY
According to a survey carried out on 17,000 people in 15 countries, sympathy towards the United States decreased (from 23 percent) to 12 percent in Turkey. The rate of supporters of Bush is only 3 percent.
ARABIAN HIGH SOCIETY IN YACHT OF ATATURK
Kuwaiti Prince Al Sabah al Hassan rented Ataturk`s famous yacht Savarona by 2 million Euro for two months. Thus, the daily rent is 34,000 Euro. Entrance to Ataturk`s room is forbidden in the yacht.
11 PLANES TOOK OFF FOR GUANTANAMO
According to the report of Amnesty International (AI), Turkey is among the 7 countries which supported CIA to transfer suspects to torture bases. 11 planes took off from Turkey`s Incirlik base, claims the report.

4 NEW-BORN BABIES DIE AT HOSPITAL
It was learned that 4 babies consecutively died at new-born unit of Istanbul`s Goztepe Training & Research Hospital. The youngest baby was 2 days old, while the oldest one was 47 days old. It was claimed that babies died of infection at hospital.
TURKEY ASKS FOR COMPENSATION FOR F-16
Following the Greek FM`s visit to Istanbul as well as Luxembourg meetings (during which actual membership negotiations between Turkey and EU started), Turkey announced that it will ask for compensation (30 million USD) from Greece for Turkish F-16 warplane which crashed after collision with Greek warplane.

BAKOYIANNI`S GAME
It was revealed that Foreign Minister Theodora Bakoyianni of Greece helped the Greek Cypriot administration to prepare its ``veto plan`` against opening of actual negotiations between Turkey and the EU. During her visit to Turkey last week, Bakoyianni gave messages of support to Turkey`s EU membership process.

NOT A SINGLE DAY WITHOUT MARTYRS
A total of 20 security officials have been killed since May 1st due to increasing numbers of acts of terrorism.
TICKS CLAIM FOUR LIVES
Number of people who died of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) in central cities of Corum and Sivas increased to four. CCHF virus has been prevalent in the cities of Corum, Tokat, Amasya, Kastamonu, Gumushane and Sivas. Local health teams have taken all necessary measures to prevent spread of the disease. CCHF is a viral hemorrhagic fever caused by tick bite, with a high mortality rate.

SOLDIERS` EU SUPPORT PLEASING
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) extended support to reforms and new Cyprus policy. On the other hand, Gul noted, ``we have not received support from some civilians.`` He added, ``without the support of TSK, it would be difficult to fulfill reforms.``
THOUGHT IS NOT FREE YET
In spite of EU adjustment laws, Turkey has not adopted freedom of expression yet. 47 writers appeared at court in one year.

GUL TO VISIT IRAN
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will pay a visit to Iran in the coming days to convey messages of the international public opinion to Iranian authorities. A certain date has not been set for the visit yet. Sources said that Gul would attend the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting in Baku, and could proceed from Baku to Tehran.
``NO CONCESSION FROM CYPRUS``
Namik Tan, spokesman for the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Turkey would not make any concessions from Cyprus. Speaking at the weekly press briefing, Tan said that the Cyprus issue could not be resolved only with Turkey`s efforts. ``If the parties start implementing our Action Plan, it will make an important contribution to the solution,`` he added.

TURKEY TO SEEK COMPENSATION FROM GREECE
Turkey signaled that it was likely to seek financial compensation from Greece following a mid-air collision between two F-16 warplanes on May 23rd. Namik Tan, spokesman for the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said, ``a report is being prepared by the relevant authorities. If it is in favor of Turkey, the question of compensation will be on our agenda.``

CRAZY DIPLOMAT OPERATION
A Turkish diplomat`s initiative to meet Pope Benedictus XVI to ``settle peace in the world`` caused crisis in Turkish Foreign Ministry. The diplomat flew to Rome with this aim, but the scandal was prevented at the last moment when he was captured in a cafe near Vatican. The diplomat was taken to Ankara and is under psychological treatment.

March 18th was declared as official holiday as ``Canakkale Victory & Martyrs Day``. It has become the 5th formal holiday after April 23rd, May 19th, August 30th and October 29th.
