DENKTAS: I CAN START FIGHTING BY GETTING SUPPORT OF ANATOLIA
TRNC President Rauf Denktas who visited the paper accused the opposition in TRNC and stressed that the U.S. and the British administration tried to eliminate him like they did to Arafat. Denktas said that the opposition party in TRNC could only get 30 percent of the votes in the elections. ''But if they get more votes, they will ask me to withdraw from the negotiations. In that case, I will give up everything and re-start my fight by getting the support of the people in Anatolia.''

IMAGINARY DEPOSIT REACHES NINE QUADRILLION TL
The amount of the deposits that was revealed after the applications of people who lost their money in Imarbank reached nine quadrillion liras. The applications continue and the Banking Regulatory and Supervisory Agency (BRSA) is also worried. This shows that the loss of money due to Imar Bank scandal is more than 10 quadrillion liras.

CIVIL SERVANTS START HUNGER STRIKE
Turkish Public Workers Trade Union (Kamu-Sen) decided to start a hunger strike with 5,000 people in 70 provinces because they did not reach a consensus with the government. The hunger strike will continue in three-day shifts. State Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said that the bargaining ended unsuccessfully because of the competition among union confederations.

70 MILLION IS PROUD OF YOU
Our athlete Sureyya Ayhan brought silver medal to our country by ranking the second in women's 1,500 meters final in the 9th World Athletics Championships. Sureyya, who was on the first line for a long time, was passed by Russian Tomashova in the last 100 meters. However, with her silver medal, Sureyya brought success to Turkey in this branch for the first time in its history. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who went to watch Sureyya, also congratulated her.

ERDOGAN TO MAKE LOBBY ACTIVITIES IN GERMANY FOR EU
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who went to Paris to watch Sureyya Ayhan, proceeded to Germany. Erdogan, who paid his first visit abroad as Prime Minister, said that he would hold meetings about membership to the European Union (EU) and Turkish workers in Germany and also would meet with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and German Foreign Minister. Erdogan said, ''we will have clear meetings with Schroeder about the four adjustment packages we have adopted rapidly in EU process. We want Germany's support in December 2004.''

5000 CIVIL SERVANTS GO ON HUNGER STRIKE
Five thousand civil servants started hunger strike in 70 provinces when unions could not reach an agreement with the government. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that they could not give a thing which did not exist.

The military command stressed its resolution to fight with fundamentalism. The retired and new commanders underlined their devotion to Kemalism and democracy and they issued messages of resolution in fight with fundamentalism. In his message for the Victory Day, Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok said that fundamentalist and separatist movements strengthened and pointed out that this development brought new and difficult duties for the Turkish Armed Forces.

Our national athlete Sureyya Ayhan won silver medal in women's 1,500 meters final at the 9th World Athletics Championships yesterday. A total of 12 athletes competed in 1,500 meters final at the 9th World Athletics Championship in Paris. Ayhan brought silver medal to Turkey for the first time in World Championship.

LAW AMENDED, MENTALITY DOES NOT CHANGE
Despite the adoption of the adjustment package, the prohibition on certain names that families want to give to their newborn babies continues. The reasons noted in the list of prohibited names sent to public registration offices by Istanbul Governor's Office are still the same: ''This name is against our traditions and national culture.'' In fact, the sixth adjustment package also liberates the use of Kurdish names and the article of the Population Law on the prohibited names was lifted by the adjustment package. But the list was sent to public registration offices on the day by when the EU adjustment package was sent to the parliament.

ANKARA INSISTS ON NORTH OF IRAQ
The military negotiations which will be held with the U.S. about the issue of sending soldiers to Iraq, will start on Tuesday. In the preliminary meeting, the U.S. side said that it wanted Turkish soldiers to be charged in Baghdad and the west of Baghdad. But Turkey demanded to send soldiers to Baghdad and the north of Baghdad.

SUREYYA RANKS THE SECOND
Sureyya Ayhan won silver medal in women's 1,500 meters final in the 9th World Athletics Championship. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal also watched the championship. Sureyya started on the first line, but became the second of the World when she was passed by her Russian competitor in the last 50 meters.

TREACHEROUS ATTACK IN SILVAN: ONE DEAD
One police officer died and two of them were injured in an armed attack launched against Silvan Police Headquarters by terrorists. A group of terrorists launched an attack at 09.30 p.m. yesterday. A police officer died and two police officers were injured in the clash. Also one terrorist died in the clash. Officials said that they started an operation to capture the terrorists.

ATTACK ON POLICE IN SILVAN: ONE POLICEMEN DIES
Terrorists attacked the police centre in Silvan town of southeastern Diyarbakýr province around 21.30 local time yesterday. While one policeman was killed in the attack, two others were injured. The wounded policemen were taken under medical treatment in military hospital in Diyarbakýr. A broad-scale operation started in the region after the attack.
