Number Of European Tourists Who Visit Turkey Decrease By 7 Percent

ANKARA - The number of European tourists who came to Turkey to spend their holiday decreased by 7 percent in the first seven months of 2003 when compared to the same period of last year.
A total of 6,773,000 foreign tourists have come to Turkey during that period, most of them came from European countries.
According to estimations based on data of the State Institute of Statistics (SIS), European countries in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) were ranked the first with 3,861,205 people among groups of countries visiting Turkey.
A total of 203,486 people from other countries in OECD; 921,602 people from other European countries; 1,029,066 people from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS); 640,914 people from Asian countries and 89,425 people from African countries visited Turkey in the first seven months of 2003.
The number of tourists from European countries in OECD who visited Turkey decreased by 7 percent between January and July 2003 when compared to the same period last year, the number of tourists from other European countries increased by 1.3 percent.
A total of 2,123,678 foreign tourists visited Turkey in July. Germany was ranked the first with 456,353 people among the countries which sent most tourists to Turkey. Russia was ranked the second with 198,822 people and the Netherlands followed them.
