Ceramic Parts Dated Back To B.C. 6th And 7th Centuries Excavated In Enez Town Of Edirne

ENEZ - Ceramic parts dated back to B.C. 6th and 7th centuries have been excavated in Enez town of northwestern province of Edirne.
Istanbul University lecturer Prof. Sait Basaran told the A.A correspondent that they also continued excavations this year that had been carried on in Enez and Kaleici since 1971 and stated that they earlier found ruins dated back to B.C. 4000.
Basaran said that they also reached some ruins belonging to Byzantine and Ottoman periods during excavations and noted that they found some ceramic parts dated back to B.C. 6th and 7th centuries.
He noted that 42 people were working in excavations and Istanbul University and Edirne governor's office provided financial and moral support to excavations.
Excavations are planned to continue till the end of September.
Basaran said that simple restorations were carried out in Enez Hagia Sophia (Fatih Mosque) and the mosque were cleaned and stated that people could visit it.
