SANLIURFA - A total of nine different teams including scholars from German Archeology Institute and Archeology Department of Spanish Alicante University will restart excavations in nine different regions of southeast Sanliurfa province.
Sanliurfa Museum Director Eyyup Bucak told A.A correspondent that the 11 thousand years history of Sanliurfa would be revealed with the archeological excavations.
Noting that excavations in the region were interrupted due to various reasons, Bucak said that the excavations would restart in September.
Bucak said, ''especially the excavations headed by Prof. Dr. Nurettin Yardimci are important to reveal the history of Sanliurfa. Also, the excavations, which are carried out with the leadership of Prof. Dr. Harald Hauptmann from German Alivce Institute and scholar Jesus Gil Fuensanta from Spanish Alicante University in Gobeklitepe region of Orencik village and Surtepe village of Birecik region, are important to transfer the past to future.''
Noting that the artifacts found during the excavations were brought to museum to be archived, Bucak said that those artifacts belonging to various periods B.C. could be exhibited after the archive studies. He added that two coins and six seals and tabs were found in the excavations within year and also citizens brought 248 artifacts, 74 coins and 12 seals and tabs to museum.''
