TOKYO - Japanese share prices steadied Wednesday in the wake of a major fall triggered by fears over the US economy, with the benchmark index rising 0.29 percent on a technical rebound, dealers said.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange's benchmark Nikkei-225 index rose 41.00 points to 14,259.60 while the broader TOPIX index of all first-section shares was little changed, edging down 0.33 points or 0.02 percent to 1,457.97.
The headline index on Tuesday posted its biggest single-day fall since the September 11, 2001 attacks, plummeting more than four percent on continued weakness on Wall Street and concerns over US inflation.
