ANKARA - Turkish police arrested 10 people, one of them a US national, for producing and spreading child pornography on the Internet, the Anatolia news agency reported Tuesday.
The suspects contacted minors in chat rooms and coerced them into sexual acts that were then recorded and sold over the web, the agency said, quoting unnamed police officials.
Police believe 30 children, three of them girls, were victims of the gang.
Among the suspects is a high school teacher and a US national, who was not named, in Turkey on a tourist visa, Anatolia said.
Turkish newspapers said police trailed the suspects for six months after being alerted to child pornography being sent from Turkey to a website in Japan.
The suspects were arrested in Ankara, Istanbul, the western city of Izmir and Antalya and Hatay in southern Turkey, press reports said.
