Istanbul's Sakıp Sabancı Museum Opens Major Rodin Exhibition

Istanbul's Sakıp Sabancı Museum is set to open a major exhibition of works by French sculptor Auguste Rodin, featuring 203 pieces on loan from the Musée Rodin in Paris.

Museum curator Nazan Ölçer announced the show at a press conference, noting that Rodin's monumental tribute to writer and thinker Victor Hugo has been placed in the museum garden, temporarily replacing a bronze horse sculpture. The exhibition runs through 3 September.

Visitors will be able to view documentary films on Rodin's life and career, and the museum will permit visually impaired guests to touch select works. Jacques Vilain, curator of the Musée Rodin, called the exhibition "important and extraordinary."

Rodin (1840–1917) is widely regarded as one of the greatest sculptors in history, credited with bringing monumental public sculpture into the modern era. Among his best-known works are "The Thinker," "The Kiss," "Saint John the Baptist," and "The Man with the Broken Nose."
