MERSIN - Mersin Deputy Police Chief Suleyman Ekizer announced today that the Mersin police impounded 93.68 kg of heroin and arrested 7 people.
Ekizer told a press conference that following an anti-drugs operation conducted on April 21st, 2006 in which police had confiscated 65 kilograms of heroin, the Mersin police staged another operation on June 6th, 2006.
In the second operation the police seized 93.68 kg of heroin stashed in a truck in 180 packages, Ekizer said and noted that seven individuals were arrested.
Meanwhile, the Mersin police carried out three separate anti-drugs operations in southeastern Diyarbakir, eastern Van and northwestern Bolu cities, impounding 67.6 kilograms of hashish and 31.1 kilograms of heroin and arresting 7 people, Ekizer added.
