PRIVATE TEHRAN TELEPHONE CALLS TO ANKARA
Very critical two telephone conversations were made at the Turkish Foreign Ministry three days ago. The first call was from EU Representative Javier Solana. The first critical sentence of the meeting was that, ``Mr. Gul, Tehran relies on you very much. We want them to take into consideration the world`s calls for talks.`` A similar call was also made from German Foreign Minister Steinmeier.
GUL: WHY SHOULD I WAIT AT THE AIRPORT?
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said he would go to Luxembourg after the decision that would be made at today`s EU foreign ministers` meeting. Gul said, ``I can`t wait at the airport and I certainly do not go there if the decision includes any negative political thing.``

MOST SERIOUS ``WARNING`` TO ANKARA
Actual talks with the EU will begin if the crisis caused by the Greek Cypriot side can be overcome. EU Commissioner for enlargement Olli Rehn said, ``there is a serious fall in the reform process.``
This meeting has historic importance for the start of actual talks. However the veto threat of the Greek Cypriots who want to make opening of ports as a condition for beginning of talks, has tensed the climate.
TWO SOLDIERS KILLED IN HEINOUS AMBUSH IN TUNCELI
PKK terrorists attacked a military unit in Geyiksu hamlet in southeastern city of Tunceli. Two soldiers killed and 6 other people including 4 soldiers were injured.

GUL TO WAIT FOR A POSITIVE MESSAGE
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul indicated that he would not attend the Turkey-EU Partnership Council meeting in Luxembourg if EU foreign ministers decided to accept Greek Cypriot demands about Turkey-EU accession negotiations. ``Undoubtedly, I do not go. Everybody knows about that. I do not go and wait at the airport if such a thing happens,`` Gul said. Gul will wait for a positive message from his Austrian counterpart.
TWO SOLDIERS KILLED IN PKK AMBUSH
Two soldiers were killed in an ambush by the terrorist organization in Geyiksuyu hamlet in the eastern city of Tunceli. Three soldiers were injured in the ambush on an army convoy.

CAPRICE OF GREEK CYPRIOTS WEARIES EU
This time also EU reacts to the Greek Cypriot side who put forward their veto card prior to the summit which will begin today.
Greek Cypriots try to include an expression into the common position paper regarded with opening of Turkish ports to them soon. Ankara said it would not join the summit if this demand of the Greek Cypriot side is accepted.
VOTERS SKIP TO RIGHT IN TURKEY
According to a survey carried out in 18 cities by Isik and Sabanci universities, rate of votes of the leftist parties which was 25 percent in 1990, is now 19,5 percent. Despite this, the elector profile skips to the rightist parties since 2002.

TWO SOLDIERS KILLED IN TUNCELI
The terrorist organization PKK attacked on a military convoy with long-range weapons and missiles in the eastern city of Tunceli. The convoy came under attack after security forces detained five people suspected of aiding and abetting the terrorists. Two soldiers were killed in the attack while five soldiers and two civilians were injured. Three of the injured soldiers are in critical condition.
ERDOGAN TO VISIT CROATIA AND MACEDONIA
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will begin his three-day tour of Croatia and Macedonia today. During his visit to Croatia, Erdogan will meet his Croatian counterpart Ivo Sanader, and attend Croatian-Turkish Business Council meeting. Later, Erdogan will proceed to Macedonia as the official guest of his Macedonian counterpart Vlado Buckovski. He will address businessmen of the two countries during Macedonian-Turkish Business Council meeting.

GUL REACTS
The Greek Cypriot side has escalated tension prior to the beginning of actual negotiations between Turkey and the EU. Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul indicated that he would not attend the Turkey-EU Partnership Council meeting in Luxembourg if EU foreign ministers decided to accept Greek Cypriot demands regarding Turkey-EU accession negotiations.
ISTANBUL TO HOST ``THE THINKER``
Istanbul`s Sakip Sabanci Museum is getting ready to host another important display after the exhibition ``Picasso is in Istanbul``. The exhibition ``Great Master of Sculpture Rodin in Istanbul`` will be inaugurated on June 13th. Auguste Rodin`s 203 sculptures will be displayed in Istanbul.

Whether of not the actual talks with the European Union (EU) start would become definite in Luxembourg today. Greek Cypriots prevent start of negotiations by putting forward conditions. Gul will go to Luxembourg if the crisis can be overcome at the meeting in the morning. Gul said, ``I will not go there to wait at the airport. Turkey will form a new policy if there is a delay because of the Greek Cypriots.``
ECONOMY ON SOLID BASIS
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who attended the Regular Congress of his Justice & Development Party (AKP) in Ankara, said the 1.75 percent increase in interest rates will drop to the previous level.

UNESCO TRIES TO CENSOR OTTOMAN DOCUMENTS
The United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization has tried to censor some documents, which were sent to Paris for the ``Ottoman Archives Exhibition``. UNESCO asked Turkey to replace a friendly letter sent to the Ottoman Empire by Armenians with another document and several other documents which prove that Ottoman sheltered Jewish people who were forced to leave their homes in Spain. When the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted, the exhibition was cancelled.

RAID ON SHIP THAT SMUGGLES TANK
Customs and Coast Guard teams raided a ship ``Scan Bothnia`` at Derince port and confiscated six armored vehicles, a 12.7 mm artillery piece and a large amount of military ammunition.
``Exporter: Ukroboronsevice Kiev Ukraine`` and ``Importer: Taos Industries Inc. USA`` were written on the weapons that were seized.
Captain of the ship did not say who was the owner of the weapons. It was also reported that the captain did not abide by the obligation to give information that they were shipping weapons.
