ANKARA - Turkish General Staff organized an international workshop on ''The Media: Vital Ground for Terrorist Operations'', in Ankara.
The workshop is held within the scope of General Staff's annual activity plans and is sponsored by NATO.
Media members and academicians from NATO-member and other countries are taking part in the workshop.
Participants will discuss the importance and role of media in fight against terrorism; media ethic and responsibilities to successfully pursue the fight; and problems of media members.
Inaugurating the workshop, Gen. Ali Erdinc, Director of General Staff Training Department, said, ''only military and economic force is not enough to fight terrorism. As a 'soft force', media must take part in this fight as well.''
''Terrorists need publicity. We should prevent terrorists to make use of media for their own purposes,'' he stressed.
Conclusions of the workshop which will end on Thursday will be published as a book by NATO.
