56 Historical Works Of Art Handed Over To Archaeology Museum

ESKISEHIR - A total of 56 historical works of art which were unearthed during the excavations in Kulluoba Tumulus near Seyitgazi town of central province of Eskisehir, were handed over to Directorate of Archaeology Museum on Wednesday.
Holding a press conference, Prof. Dr. Turan Efe from Istanbul University Archaeology Department said that a 25-member team had been carrying out archaeological excavations in the tumulus for the last eight years.
''These excavations will make an important contribution to enlightenment of pre-historical periods in Eskisehir. During the excavations, we found traces of the First Bronze Age. Also, we have found out that first concrete steps towards urbanization were taken in this region,'' he said.
Prof. Dr. Efe noted, ''settlement started in Kulluoba, which had been an important center in commercial relations between Mesopotamia and Marmara Basin, at about 3500 B.C. In the tumulus, we unearthed earthenware statues, marble idols and metal devices belonged to the First Bronze Age.''
He added that they would continue carrying out excavations in the tumulus next year.
