KONIGSTEIN - Real Madrid's exciting new Brazilian talent Robinho said Friday he was ready to step into the breach at any time for his country should Ronaldo, beset by niggling fitness problems, not be ready for the off next Tuesday against Croatia.
"I am preparing to play, I am awaiting an opportunity," said Robinho, speaking to reporters at Konigstein on the outskirts of Frankfurt.
Carlos Parreira's side expect Ronaldo will be ready to take his place despite his recent difficulties with blisters and a fever, despite Robinho's enthusiasm at his first World Cup.
With Ronaldo resting up this week - "he's been a little ill" - Robinho has been playing in his stead in training matches.
Following his move last season from Santos to the Bernabeu, Robinho says he has toughened up.
"I've gained a little muscle mass during this period at Real Madrid," he said.
"Being a bit stronger will help me when it comes to the national side."
