ISTANBUL - The Press Council condemned armed attack on Abdulmuhi Casin, the cameraman of Ihlas News Agency (IHA), in Kirkuk city of Iraq.
Releasing a statement, Press Council Secretary General Gokalp Yazir said on Tuesday, ''we consider the attack a crude and inconvenient event. Acts of violence against journalists, unfortunately, become daily incidents. We want local officials to take necessary measures as soon as possible to prevent such attacks.''
Earlier, Casin, who has covered the recent events in Kirkuk, was shot in his legs and arms by peshmerga fighters of the Patriotic Union of Iraqi Kurdistan (PUK). He was left in a rural area. Turkmen people found and took him to hospital. Doctors said that Casin was in critical condition.
