AMMAN - Jordanian police abruptly halted a glowing tribute to slain Al-Qaeda frontman Abu Musab al-Zarqawi by his Jordanian brother-in-law as it was being broadcast live from their hometown north of Amman Thursday.
The Arabic-language satellite news channel Al-Jazeera said its correspondent Yasser Abu Helala and his crew were briefly detained after officers cut the interview in Zarqa with Abu Qudama.
But Jordanian government spokesman Nasser Jawdeh denied that anyone had been arrested over the broadcast.
Abu Qudama had been lavish in his praise for his slain brother-in-law's long campaign of violence in neighbouring Iraq, saying: "If he had lived in a European country, the president would have kissed his feet."
Iraq's most wanted man with a 25 million dollar US bounty on his head, Zarqawi was killed in a US raid north of Baghdad Wednesday evening, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said.
