PARIS - Turkish Airlines (THY) President and Chief Executive Officer Temel Kotil has been elected member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Board of Governors.
The three-day annual general meeting of IATA in Paris ended on Tuesday.
Following the meeting, Kotil told A.A that a Turkish CEO was elected member of IATA Board of Governors for the first time.
``This membership will play a significant role in promotion of the THY. Annual passenger capacity of the THY increased 20 percent in 2005. We expect that it will go up from 14 million to 18 million in 2006,`` he added.
IATA was founded in Havana, Cuba, in April 1945. At its founding, IATA had 57 members from 31 countries, mostly in Europe and North America. Today it has over 270 members from more than 140 countries in every part of the globe.
