ANKARA - The opening ceremony of the statue of Ataturk, which has been financed by Confederation of Turkish Employers' Unions (TISK) and which will be placed on La Reforma boulevard in Mexico City, will be held on October 29, 2003.
Labor and Social Security Minister Murat Basesgioglu and National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul will attend the opening ceremony which will be held on the 80th foundation anniversary of Turkish Republic.
TISK Chairman Refik Baydur and Secretary General Bulent Pirler had seen that statues of world's famous leaders and politicians were placed in various parts of city during their participation to Trade and Industry Consultation Committee meeting held for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) between April 26 and 27, 2000 in Mexico City. They conveyed their views to Foreign Ministry and Mexican officials that the statue of Ataturk, the founder of modern and secular Republic of Turkey, could also be placed there.
After negotiations, the statue of Ataturk was made by Azerbaijani sculptor Sait Rustem and was sent to Mexico City to be placed on La Reforma boulevard on October 28, 2003.
Ministers, bureaucrats, guests from Turkey and Mexican officials would attend the opening ceremony on the 80th foundation anniversary of Republic.
