SAKARYA - A woman was killed and two other people were injured in an explosion that happened at a scrap-metal junkyard in military barracks in northwestern city of Sakarya on Monday.
Sources said that the blast occurred in the junkyard of the First Infantry Brigade Command in Sakarya when two women and one child were picking up some scraps from the munitions junkyard.
One woman died while the other woman and the child from a village near the command were injured in the blast and they were hospitalized.
Sources said that the two women and the child entered the military area to pasture their animals.
Sources added that the blast might have been caused by unexploded ordnance while those villagers who violated the closed military zone were handling the junk munitions.
