MONKUL PRESENTED WITH INTERNATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT PRIZE

IZMIR - Dr. Serap Monkul, a psychiatrist from Dokuz Eylul University School of Medicine, was presented with the International Career Development Prize by the Astra Zeneca Firm.
Dr. Monkul received a career development award of 45,000 USD.
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Astra Zeneca firm provide the ''Young Minds in Psychiatry'' awards program for young psychiatrists from round the world.
In 2005, six winners were selected across two research categories: schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Dr. Monkul was presented with the prize with her research on bipolar disorder.
She received her psychiatric training in Ankara. With her ''Young Minds Award'', Dr. Monkul will continue her exploration of brain changes linked to bipolar disorder at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
She is also engaged in a number of projects linking the biology and psychology of mood disorders.
