MOSCOW - ``We want declaration of the Middle East as a nuclear weapons-free zone,`` said Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary-General Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on Monday.
Replying to questions of Turkish reporters in Moscow, Ihsanoglu stressed, ``every country has the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful objectives. But countries must comply with the provisions of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Iran is also a party to this treaty.``
Ihsanoglu indicated that he believed that Iran should continue cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency, quoting Iranian authorities as saying that Iran was open to international inspection and they did not have any intention of producing nuclear weapons.
