GENERAL STAFF: WE LEARNED DETENTION FROM MEDIA
General Staff released a written statement on Saturday regarding the operation in Eryaman district in which officers were also detained. The statement said General Staff learned about the detention and the questioning of the officers from media.
4.8 SHAKES HAKKARI, 4.5 SHAKES ELAZIG
Earthquakes measuring 4.8 and 4.5 on the Richter scale shook southeastern city of Hakkari and eastern city of Elazig yesterday.
According to Kandilli Observatory, an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook Yuksekova town of Hakkari at 2:07 p.m. The quake was felt in Hakkari, Semdinli and Baskale town of eastern city of Van. Meanwhile, another earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale jolted Karakocan town of eastern city of Elazig at 5:40 p.m. No casualties reported in both earthquakes.

Health Minister Recep Akdag said, ''we will make state hospitals autonomous. Health Ministry will not operate hospitals. It will only determine general health policies of the country and make inspection.''
EMBARGO ON VIOLENCE
Vatan newspaper made a call to the business world and wanted them not to give advertisement to tv series showing murders as ordinary incidents. Koc Holding expended the first support to call of Vatan. Mustafa Koc said, ''our companies will not give advertisement to the tv series which include violence.''

AYHAN PARLAK ARRESTED
Ayhan Parlak, who surrendered as he was searched for in connection with the attack on Council of State and bomb attacks on Cumhuriyet newspaper, was arrested on charge of ''aiding the organization.''
Parlak said he had only lawyer-client relationship with Alparslan Aslan, who was responsible for the attack on Council of State.

SAUDI ARABIAN ATTACHE DROWNED IN SILE
Ibrahim Abdullah Al Shaye (35), the attache assigned in Saudi Arabian Consulate General in Istanbul went to swimming in Sofular Village, which is 10 km to Sile town of Istanbul. He was accompanied by Suleyman Muhammad al-Arani (22) and Muhammad Suleyman al-Gannes (12). The three started to struggle with the waves after swimming for a while. The citizens survived al-Arani and al-Gannes but al-Shaye could not be rescued. His body was later found in the sea.

Ayhan P. who surrendered to police last Thursday in connection with the armed attack in Council of State, was arrested yesterday.

Health Minister Recep Akdag said they carried out works on hospital management, stating that state hospitals will become autonomous. Akdag said they were about to submit their work on the issue to prime ministry. Akdag said hospitals will have their own executive boards.
