ANKARA - Turkey belongs to the EU, and we all want Turkey's entry talks to be completed positively, said German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul in Ankara on Friday.
Diplomatic sources said that Turkey and Germany have very sound relations, adding that the two countries acted together during cartoon crisis. Within that scope, Gul invited Steinmeier to the meeting on dialogue between cultures in Turkey in autumn.
Noting that officials from Austria which holds the rotating EU presidency told German officials that they are impressed with Turkey's performance (on the path to EU), Steinmeier said that Turkey's screening process continues very positively.
On the other hand, Gul told Steinmeier that Turkey received only 6 of the Airbus aircraft which were ordered to Germany, and wanted German officials to deliver them more rapidly.
Gul invited Steinmeier and German Chancellor Angela Merkel to the inauguration of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline on July 13th.
Gul also wanted convenience from German officials in visa procedures for Turkish businessmen.
