LEFKOSA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas and TRNC Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu received separately Haluk Ulusoy, the Chairman of the Football Federation on Thursday.
Speaking during the meeting, Denktas said that the embargo imposed on TRNC in all fields including sports was against humanity.
Denktas stated that Turkish Cypriot people could only enter the European Union with its state and Turkey, adding that the contrary would be treason to the motherland.
''EU says 'we admit Cyprus, come and join them.' On what status do they invite us? As Turkish people? No, as 'Turkish community.' Because they tell that Cypriot people is one, and we are a community having 20 percent of population among that people. Is this possible? Only states join the EU,'' Denktas said.
Denktas noted that EU membership of Cyprus would disturb the Turkish-Greek balance on the island and end the rights of Turkey on the island, adding that institutions which took money from the EU continued to deceive the people.
TRNC Prime Minister Eroglu said in his part that Haluk Ulusoy played an important role in opening the Turkish soccer to the world.
Ulusoy gave information about the studies of the federation during the two meetings and invited Denktas and Eroglu to the Turkey-England national football match to be played in October.
Ulusoy said that they enabled Turkish Cypriot football players to play in Turkey with their TRNC passports, adding that they would continue to help TRNC and Turkish Cypriots.
