ISTANBUL - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday they welcomed the United States' statement that it felt ready to sit at the table with Iran together with the EU Troika, Russia and the People's Republic of China.
Lavrov paid a visit to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) headquarters in Istanbul before departing from Turkey.
He met BSEC Secretary-General Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, representatives of 12-member countries and of 13 observer countries.
Speaking at the meeting, Lavrov said that they attached great importance to cooperation among 12 countries in the Black Sea region.
He noted that a meeting would take place in Sochi, Russia, on June 6th and 7th on the issue of natural disasters with the participation of relevant ministers of the BSEC countries.
Upon a question about latest developments on Iran's nuclear activities, Lavrov said they welcomed the United States' statement that it felt ready to sit at the table with Iran together with the EU Troika, Russia and the People's Republic of China.
